Lasers Systems and Pulsed Particle Sources (LPS)

Core competencies:
Laser systems and optical beam lines for charged-particle production, purification, manipulation and spectroscopy; laser ion sources and beam-manipulation technologies; and photoinjector lasers, photocathodes and photoemission systems.
Core responsibilities:
- Develop, integrate, operate and maintain specialised laser installations, optical systems and associated safety provisions.
- Develop and operate laser ion sources, beam-purification and ion-manipulation techniques, and related devices and test benches.
- Operate and develop photoinjector lasers, photocathodes and photoemission facilities for present and future accelerators.
- Develop laser spectroscopy, photonic methods, ultrafast laser processing and particle-source technologies.
- Provide CERN-wide laser expertise and lead Target and Ion Source Development jointly with RBP.
- Ensure the safe operation of all diverse equipment under Section’s responsibilities.
